Organizations for and Issues in Coastal Planning

Planning in coastal communities can be unique. Many times the communities have to deal with land use, zoning, pollution, and other issues in a special way because they are located near a body of water. Communities who share this feature can take advantage of the special organizations who have dedicated resources to help planning efforts in coastal areas.

This section provides links of various topics that may aid or affect planning in coastal areas. The section is broken down into two sections: Organizations and Issues. The Organization section, arranged by geographic location, offers a list of mostly public organizations, institutions, and branches of government that might be helpful to coastal communities engaging in the planning process. The Issues section provides a list of planning-related topics, like aquatic exotic species, recreation, and education, that may be used as a reference guide.
