Besides summarizing a vast amount of data about the fishery and environment of the four Yahara River lakes, the report provides in-depth information on the 17 most important fish species in the lakes.

281010	Becker, George C. Fishes of Wisconsin. Madison: University of Wisconsin Press, 1983. This encyclopedic reference to 157 fish species found in Wisconsin has become a model for all other such works. Many of the species are also found in much of the Great Lakes region and Mississippi River watershed. In addition to thorough species accounts, Becker discusses the history and policy of water resources and fisheries management.

281019	Lyons, John, Philip Andrew Cochran, and Don Fago. Wisconsin Fishes: 2000 Status and Distribution. Madison: University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute, 2000. The first complete assessment of Wisconsin fishes since George C. Becker's landmark publication, Fishes of Wisconsin, this book provides the current status and abundance of all fish species in Wisconsin (including nonnative species).

Web Sites

Fish Identification Database UW Sea Grant, UW Center for Limnology and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources have partnered to produce this Web site to help Wisconsinites identify native fish. Users can identify a fish by physical features, family, or species. The site also provides a list of all Wisconsin fish and a glossary of terms.

Fish of the Great Lakes From profiles of Great Lakes fish to guidelines to safely preparing and eating these fish, this Wisconsin Sea Grant Web site has a wealth of information. Also includes the entire text of George Becker's Fishes of Wisconsin!

Wisconsin Fish: Fish Species The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources provides identification assistance and other information about selected species of fish commonly found in Wisconsin waters.

FishBase If you can't find the fish you are looking for in the above resources, try FishBase, a global information system on fishes containing almost 29,000 species. It was developed by the International Center for Living Aquatic Resources Management in collaboration with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.
