Students to Compete in Lake Sturgeon Bowl

The fifth annual Lake Sturgeon Bowl, a regional competition of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl, will be held on March 4, 2006, at UW-Milwaukee. Up to twenty Wisconsin high school teams are eligible to compete for an all-expenses-paid opportunity to represent the region at the national finals to be held from May 13-15, 2006, in Monterey, California. Other prizes include a behind-the-scenes tour of the John G. Shedd Aquarium, field trips aboard the research vessel Neeskay, classroom equipment, gift certificates, and more.

In addition to the daylong bowl, teams are hosted at an open house and tour of the Great Lakes WATER Institute where they were able to discuss research with scientists. The Lake Sturgeon Bowl is made possible by support from the Consortium for Oceanographic Research and Education, Great Lakes WATER Institute, Brunswick Public Foundation, UW Sea Grant Institute, and the Wisconsin Energy Corporation Foundation.
