Dr. Shaw’s work includes helping Extension professionals, public health communicators, and environmental health communicators effectively communicate about PFAS in drinking water without causing unintended consequences by creating too much fear and not enough efficacy to address the risk. He has provided leadership on multiple studies examining how people seek information about PFAS in their water, surveyed Wisconsinites about their attitudes toward PFAS in water and researched how they respond to different types of messages about PFAS.
